Ortonville- It’s almost time again to celebrate, remember, and fight back with the second annual Relay for Life of Brandon/Ortonville.
A kick-off meeting for this year’s event will be from 7 p.m.-8 p.m., March 26, at the Old Town Hall, 486 Mill St. Community residents are invited to attend, enjoy dinner and refreshments and learn about Relay for Life and how they can become part of the overnight event that raises funds for cancer research.
Last year’s 24-hour event, in which 25 teams of family members, friends, and co-workers camped out overnight and took turns walking a track, raised more than $43,330 to find the cure for cancer.
This year, Relay for Life of Brandon/Ortonville is planned for 10 a.m. June 13 to 10 a.m. June 14 at the Brandon Schools Athletic Complex on Varsity Drive.
Erin Semmens, American Cancer Society community representative for the event, said participants and visitors to this year’s relay will have an opportunity to celebrate the victory of area cancer survivors during a survivor’s lap; remember those who have lost their fight to the disease during a touching luminaria ceremony and participate in the new Fight Back ceremony that gives everyone a chance to proclaim their way of taking action against the disease.
