Through the month of March, Lake Orion schools celebrated Reading Month. At Paint Creek Elementary, in Pilar Mazur, Nicole Pelletier, Holly Conrad and Carly Riddle’s second grade classrooms, students created new cereal brands.
Students read books and, in place of a book reports, they invented breakfast favorites, complete with names, ingredient lists and plot-themed games on the back. Some boxes even included prizes stashed inside.
The students came up with cereals like Red Alert Loops, Super Football Cereal, Orangutan O’s and Snowy Flakes and presented there new cereal in commercial format to the class.
The project helped students learn to identify story elements like plot, character, conflict and resolution.
