Supervisor on the mend after surgery

Dave Wagner, Independence Township supervisor, has been feeling a little more than ‘under the weather? lately.
Wagner was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac on April 1, because of severe stomach pains. Infection had spread from a torn stomach lining, damage during severe coughing. Doctors performed surgery, Friday.
‘Two hours worth of surgery and they repaired everything,” Wagner said. “They said there was so much infection inside of me, they were not sure how much longer I would have been able to go. They said the good thing was I couldn’t take the pain anymore and the ambulance got me into the hospital.?
Wagner had battled sickness for the past few months, which is why he was absent from office and township board meetings.
‘It started out with pneumonia, and I kept on getting sicker, sicker, and sicker,? he said. ‘I started going in for IV’s every other day with antibiotics and all that kind of stuff. I would start to feel better then I would go down hill again.?
Wagner said he went to work the Monday prior and lasted about two hours before going home. By Wednesday, the pain was too much to bear.
‘I was in so much pain. I wasn’t thinking of anything, other than I’m just sick,? he said.
Wagner returned home from the hospital on Sunday, April 5.
‘I’m healing now and plan on being back to work in a week or so here at full speed, whatever ‘full speed? is,” Wagner said with laugh. ‘But I’m doing alright and I’m on the mend.?
