Last month, Paint Creek kids were challenged to participate in the Accelerated Reader program. For every reading comprehension question answered correctly, they earned points.
When the kids earned 2,000 points, Paint Creek’s PTO gifted every child with a book for his/her home library.
But the fun was only just beginning.
Soon, they earned 3,000 and won a movie day.
Then came the most eagerly anticipated event: the principal’s challenge. Because students met Principal Lauren Sanborn’s call to arms and earned a whopping 4,000, she rewarded the young, cheering audience with some good, old-fashioned entertainment. The plaid-shirted and hat-wearin? principal milked Greta the cow, graciously supplied by Upland Hills Farms. She was then crowned ‘Dairy Queen? for the day.
By the end of the reading challenge, the students earned 5,563.1 points. In reward, eleven staff members participated in a pudding-eating contest. Nancy Secor beat out her fellow contestants and won a six-pound can of pudding.
