This is Coach Mark Taylor’s first year with Lake Orion but he’s been coaching for 31.
‘This team is one of my better teams,? he said of his Lady Dragons.
This season, the girls hope to improve on their previous record but the task might prove difficult with the team missing three of four singles players from last year.
Luckily, players like junior Kelsey Cooper are on board. Cooper was number three for singles last year and will take the number one spot this time around.
‘She played and defeated Milford’s number one this year,? said Taylor.
Playing at’number two singles is Rachel Porter, Nicole VanRooyen will take three and Leslie Siedlak is four. The three played’doubles last year.
Lyndsey Jackson and Haley Scavone are the number one doubles team and Gabrielle Hodge and Alex Grassi make up number two. Both teams played varsity doubles last year. Moving from junior to varsity this year are Rachael Barak and Abby Martin (three) and Tiffanie Wise and Evolan Ventola (four).?
Leading the team as captains are Siedlak and Cooper.?
‘The players have worked hard to improve their tennis skills from last year,? said Taylor.
Right now the team is trying to improve’doubles strategies and is trying to win at the net.
‘If we continue to improve, we have a very good chance of winning the league this year,? added Taylor.
March 30, varsity girls defeated Milford 7-2 and lost a close game with Howell the same day.
This week, they’ll have four matches, three of which are league matches.
