MOMS Club walks to help Lighthouse

MOMS Club Waterford-North is raising funds for Lighthouse Emergency Services at the Lighthouse Hunger Walk, 10 a.m., Saturday, May 2, Pontiac Campus of Caring, 46156 Woodward Avenue.
‘With the economy the way it is, it’s something we all believe in,? said club member Sharon Hall. ‘Some of our moms are even affected by it.?
Each month, more than 1,200 Oakland County citizens turn to the Lighthouse food pantry for help, 100 percent increase over this time last year, said John Ziraldo, Lighthouse CEO.
‘When the school year ends in June, we’ll see an even greater demand,? Ziraldo said. ‘Many children won’t have access to reduced-price and free lunch programs. We’ll need our neighbors? help now.?
The annual Lighthouse Hunger Walk, four-mile walk and run, funds the organization’s food pantry year round. The event is free, with pledges accepted for the pantry programs. Scheduled activities include musical entertainment,’a health tent, a children’s area, prizes and more. All ages are welcome.
Registration begins Saturday, May 2 at 8:30 a.m.; the walk starts at 10 a.m. For more information, call 248-920-6000.
