Students run to help classmate

Oakland Christian School students hit the track to help classmate, 7 year-old Preston McFarland.
Students pre-K to third grade ran in their second Annual Fun Run for the Neurofibromatosis Foundation, April 17, at Clarkston Community Church.
Neurofibromatosis causes tumors to grow on the nerves throughout the body. It’s a life-long disorder, usually diagnosed in childhood, and accompanied by a variety of complications and levels of severity.
‘Each year, our faculty prays about how we can best help the children and families within our school and our community,? saidPrincipal, Erin Akers. ‘We support all our families and try to tailor our environment to meet their needs.?
Staff members also donated $1during jeans days, Fridays. The run earned more for the foundation and raised community awareness about the debilitating disorder and the efforts to find a cure.
