Putting muscles, minds to work

The hallways and classrooms of Pine Knob Elementary were dark and quiet, 10 a.m., May 6. Everyone was outside getting some exercise.
“Exercise is good for your brain cells ? it helps you learn,” Principal Valerie Grimes told students near the end of Project ACES, All Children Exercise Simultaneously.
Joe Degain, Pine Knob gym teacher, led a series of exercises in the international program to educate and motivate children on the importance of physical fitness.
‘We’ve got to teach our kids to stay physically active,? says Brian Luba, ACES coordinator. ‘It’s our job to show them how to stay healthy and why it’s important.?
‘We’re committed to providing and encouraging a healthful learning environment at Pine Knob,? Grimes said. ‘I love that our staff and our parents continue to find new and exciting ways to keep our students engaged.?
ACES was created in1989 in New Jersey. The workout was scheduled with National Physical Education Month and National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, all in May.
