Brandon Girl Scouts Sam Livo, 16, a Holly High School junior, and Lauren Smyth, 17, a Brandon High School junior, are currently working on their Gold Award project to make a community vegetable garden. The harvest from the garden will be donated to the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund. Wojo’s Greenhouse has donated all the plants needed and Hillside Bible Church has provided the land for the garden. Several other items are needed including: 40 wooden stakes, one bag urea, sphagnum peat moss, compost, three bales of straw, six bags of mulch, plastic stakes, tomato food, plant food, plastic bags, four bags top soil, 40 cement pavers, and a dozen 10-foot planks.

Lake Orion Girl Scouts donated 225 Easter baskets to the Lighthouse recently. The girls responded to the overwhelming need and hope their efforts will brighten the holiday for local families.
‘We can always count on the Girl Scouts, especially at Easter,? Lisa Mujica from Lighthouse Mission-Clarkston said.
The Lighthouse helps hundreds of families who do not have the resources to provide such luxuries. This year many baskets were provided for senior citizens as well.
Lake Orion Girl Scouts have been donating Easter baskets for about five years now. What started as a small group effort in a leader’s basement has become the largest community service event of the year for the scouts. This year the Gingellville Community Center generously provided the space for production and drop-off.
‘Easter arrived early this year, so we had to act fast. Troops pitched in and we more than doubled our pledges in less than two weeks, ‘Michelle Zimmerman, Leader and Community Outreach Chair said, ‘The girls should be very proud.?
If you know a girl who would like to get involved, contact Girl Scouts at 1-800-482-6734. Summer Camp registration information is available.

Rose Edwards, principal of Carpenter Elementary school was made an honorary Girl Scout of Troop 1205 on March 2.
The girls wanted Edwards to be an honorary scout because they believe she is a great role model. Most of the scouts have attended Carpenter since kindergarten and have interacted with her in some way each school day. The scouts wanted to show Edwards just how special she is and thank her for teaching them that one person can make a difference.
The fourth grade junior troop surprised Edwards with a pizza luncheon and presented her with a special fleece scarf. Each scout was wearing a matching scarf they had made as a troop project that will now symbolize the importance of dedicating yourself to always do your best.
