After six years on the planning commission, Chairman Sam Moraco has had enough of township goverment.
‘It has been a lot of fun for me working with the township in the past,? said Moraco, who resigned his appointed post, Friday. ‘But as’I tell everyone the more you know about how our government works the more disappointed and discouraged you get.?
Moraco said he doesn’t have anymore interest ‘associating? himself with current administration.
‘I have worked hard to build a reputation in this community and I feel my association with the current administration jeopardizes that,? he said. ‘It’s been a long road’and I am mentally and physically drained from dealing with these people.?
It wasn’t just one particular thing that caused him to resign, Moraco noted. But it’s something that built up for quite some time.
He said ‘No one has the qualifications to run a service organization of this size? and he wrestles with the ‘total lack leadership? at the township.
‘When no one is in charge no one is held accountable, the employees run the township not the elected officials,? he said. ‘Everyone is there short term, so no effort is made to do anything but the minimum and they protect each other till they’re out. Only the volunteer boards truly do it for the community.?
Trustee Mark Petterson, said Moraco was a ‘great loss to the community.?
‘I congratulate him for all of his hard efforts, Sam has given a lot of flair and chutzpah to the planning commission,? Petterson said. ‘He had a lot of guts, stood by his own convictions and always went by the book. I just hope we can replace that great loss because he will be missed.?
Fellow commissioner Joan McCrary he would be missed by the commission and always showed a ‘great passion for what he was doing.?
‘People usually just have one focus, but he was always just as interested in every project that came before us, no matter if it was just a gas main or a major development, he really did his homework,? she said. ‘I really believe the community is going to suffer a loss over this, it’s hard to find people who really throw themselves into it like he did.?
Current Vice Chairwoman Cheryl Karrick will chair meetings until the township board appoints a new chairperson.
Moraco said it’s time to take a break and spend some time with his family.
‘I am sure in the future I will be involved again, but for now the past’six years is all I could take,? he said.
