Martian netters take two wins in GAC

GOODRICH- The Lady Martians are poised to take a top spot in the GAC for this seasons’ volleyball standings.
To up their chances, the Martians recently knocked down both Mt. Morris and Atherton to help them increase their record to 8-1 in league.
Playing against the Panther of Mt. Morris on Thursday, Feb. 6, the Maritans won the match in two games, 15-10, 15-13.
Jaclyn Lawrence topped out serving for Goodrich, going 13-for-13, with two aces. Christina Saindon added nine-for-nine serving, while both Lisa Shaw and Denica Brooks went seven-for-seven. Rebecca Scott recorded an ace and was seven-for-nine in serving.
Scott was also hot in the back court for the Martians, with 19 passes and 10 digs.At the net, Scott gained four kills.
Saindon and Natalie McCormick each recorded eight good passes in the game, while McCormick got three kills and Saindon, 11 digs.
Shaw recorded four blocks and set for five assists, while Brooks was five for five passing, and got nine digs. Julie Owen set for four assists.
In the Feb. 10 defeat of the Atherton Wolverines, McCormick went 15-for-16 in serving, while going 12-for-12 in passing. She recorded three kills and nine digs.
Scott went six for six serving and 11-for-11 passing, with 13 kills and 20 digs.
Saindon recorded six ofr six in serving and seven for seven passing, with 10 digs.
Brooks was nine for nine serving, while Jessica March went seven for seven with one ace.
Freshman Tara Garman recorded four kills and four blocks, while Shaw got seven digs and set for nine assists.
Lawrence and Lauren Heidenberger both set for six assists.
Last week, on Feb. 12, the Martians took on the LakeVille Falcons at home, where they lost in three games.
Next up for the girls is a match up with Bentely on the road, Feb. 19. Game time is set for 7 p.m., after JV play.
