GOODRICH- The Martians Powerlifting team enjoyed a decent day at the Bendle Tiger Powerlifting Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 8.
In the all-day event, the Martians ended up taking third place in the JV meet.
“It was a good meet for us,” Coach Trevor Alward said. “A third place is not bad, and I was happy with the way we lifted.”
Pulling out big wins for Goodrich were Cody Hawkins, who took the championship for the 165 lbs. class, and Nathan LeGender, who won the 181 lbs. division.
Adam Compeau took a second place in the 151 lbs. category, and Mike Bradburn took second at 181 lbs.
At the JV level, Brad Hoffman placed first for the 132 lbs. group, and Mark Johnson nabbed a second in the 198 division.
“Our numbers have been dwindling this season,” Alward mentioned. “We started out the season with about 30 lifters, and are down to about 20 now. With any luck, the lifters we have now will comtinue to do well and we will be able to bring hopefully 10 kids to the state meet.
“The regional meet for us is on Feb. 22, at Carman-Ainsworth, and we are looking forward to it. We were runner up last season, and right now our kids are lifting well, We are really looking for a good finish on the season,” he said.
