Six Clarkston candidates declared intent to run for city council in the November election, turning in required paperwork by the Aug. 4 deadline.
Four seats are up for grabs; Voters will elect three city council members for two-year terms, and one member for a one-year term, at the Tuesday, Nov. 3 election.
Incumbent Jim Brueck will seek a third term his bid for reelection, while incumbent Peg Roth seeks a return for a second term. Tom Hunter, who was appointed to fill an empty seat when Councilwoman Kristy Ottman resigned, is also seeking a return to council.
Residents Craig Frasa, Stephen Hargis and Virginia Schultz have tossed their hats into the ring, as well.
Since Ottman’s term wasn’t due to expire until 2010, one member of the council will serve a one-year term. Brueck, Frasa, Hargis and Hunter are seeking two-year terms, while Roth and Schultz have limited commitment to one year.
If all two-year candidates are elected, the lowest vote-getter will assume the one-year seat. Write-in candidates must file a declaration of intent no later than 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30.
