Alumni soccer game fun for all

The Second Annual Oxford Soccer Alumni Game was even better than the inaugural event last year.
It was a match between the current players and the alumni.
With more 30 alumni participating, some coming from as far as Germany (Nick Schrecker 2007-08 exchange student) and in-state, from Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, to join in on all the action, it was a great evening of soccer.
The event was so successful last year we had to try it again. Last year, the alumni won 5-3.
Word spread quite rapidly last year and many alumni were not going to miss the event this year.
Graduates as far back as 1988 and as recent as 2009 came to play and enjoy the atmosphere.
It was a great evening as many parents of the alumni got to catch up with old friends and enjoy seeing the current players take on the alumni.
The first half proved to be a stalemate as the half ended 0-0. It was great to see all the current and past talent amongst the many players.
With nearly both stands filled to capacity and cheers all around it made for a memorable evening.
The second half saw the alumni pull away and score five goals to defeat the current players.
The parents were wonderful and donated their time and resources to provide food and drinks to help raise money for local charities (FISH, OHS Senior All-Night Party, Tim Keenan Memorial Fund).
We plan on making this an annual summer event due to the huge success.
It was wonderful to see players whom we hadn’t seen in quite a while as well as the recent graduates. There was no shortage of fun and excitement.
We hope to see everyone out again next year. ? Varsity Soccer Coach John Thaler
