Local girls making strides in 4-H Club

Three members of the Making Strides 4-H Club, serving the Ortonville and Goodrich area, were honored during the Genesee County Horse Leaders Association’s annual event, July 20-24 at the Cummings Center in Mt. Morris.
Kelsey Holt, 11, won the Genesee County 4-H Horse Leaders Revolving Trophy Walk-Trot Pleasure Championship with her horse, Cody Classic.
Savanah Reynolds, 16, was reserve champion for the trail class with her horse, Tango. The pair followed a pattern of different obstacles throughout the course, including a water pool, mailbox, bridge, jumps, and gates.
Kasha Cobb, 15, was presented with a plaque to honor her efforts with her horse Tommy this year. Kasha was eligible for state competition but was unable to participate due to her horse becoming ill.
The Making Strides 4-H Group meets from 6:30-8 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month at the Old Town Hall in Ortonville. Children learn the basics of horse care, the parts of the horse and experiences and knowledge of horsemanship. Members also participate in craft activities and holiday gatherings.
