Both Varsity Cross Country teams battled to an eighth place finish at the Oxford Invite on Friday, Oct 16 at the hilly Oxford Hills Golf Course.
Both squads came in eighth place out of 18 teams overall, and many had their own personal best despite the many hills on the course.
Coach Sutherland was impressed with the team. ‘We were very, very happy with the run. We had a lot of personal bests for the season and we just really fan well.?
The meet featured over 200 runners with the top 40 medaling at the meet. Freshman Brooke Kovacic and Ashley Burr each medaled, Kovacic finishing third with a time of 19:28 and Burr placing 16 with a time of 20:30.
For the girls, Junior Megan Seeley placed 51st, running the course in 21:35. Sophomore Olivia Hernandez was 71st, Freshman Abby Wrobel finished 75th and Sophomore Jillian Walker was 82nd.
For the boys, Junior Dylan Smith and Freshman Ryan Gillespie each medaled. Smith came in 21st with a time of 17:18 and Gillespie was 24th and ran a 17:21. Junior Curtis Kocher was 51st, followed by Senior Alex Pollack in 62nd. Freshman Ross Chapman placed 64th and Sophomore Alec Smith came in 78th.
The Flint Metro League meet is Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Oxford Hills golf course.
