Dedication to Ortonville: Thank you Mary

Dear Editor:
I was surprised to read in the Oct. 10 issue of The Citizen that Mary Kassuba has decided to step down from the village council after 20 years of service. No doubt she deserves a rest, and I wish her relaxed shoulders and warm, fuzzy feelings deep in her heart.
Through her own dedication and cooperation as a former DDA member, Mary’s efforts to create recognizable improvement within Ortonville are still very apparent in the brick pavers and street lamps that adorn our downtown sidewalks. I would like to thank her for her dedication and cooperation on that project and offer her the opportunity to once again participate in something fun and wonderful.
As the promotions chair, it is my duty to recruit and inspire volunteers who are interested in making a difference within our community. Through the DDA, its partners, committees and sponsors, we host events throughout the year, which include CreekFest, Beets, Beats & Eats Farmers Market, Cruise to Ortonville, the Scarecrow Contest, Christmas in the Village and, in collaboration with the Brandon Township Library, Earth Day.
Our goals as a promotions committee include: to energize our businesses and community through the events we organize, as well as the people involved in them; to recognize the good in Ortonville and promote it; and to cooperate with and provide advancement to our businesses, community and citizens.
It’s the dedication and drive of people like Mary Kassuba that helps us create a vision of what we believe will be the best future we can offer our children and grandchildren; a place to find some common ground and the opportunity to smile with one another. We become the stimulus we need when we speak well and often of the opportunities, events and people within all of Michigan. By taking one step at a time, with the right attitude, we will create the change we need to see in order to make a vibrant Village of Ortonville.
For anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, I invite you to contact me at pambelding@gmail.com, or call our DDA Executive Director Molly Lalone at 248-627-8070.
Pam Belding,
DDA promotions chair
