Lego team to rumble at state contest

Mechanical Thunder heads to Flint this Saturday in pursuit of a state championship.
The Sashabaw Middle School Lego Robotics team qualified for state after winning the 2009 Robot Challenge, First Lego League, on Nov. 21.
‘It feels really good to be going to the state competition,? said team member Matthew Netherland. ‘I didn’t expect it at all. It is just pure amazement.?
They also won the teamwork trophy during the challenge.
The problem the team addressed was lost luggage and how airports deal with it.
‘Our robot didn’t do very well, but we excelled in other aspects of the competition,? said Mark Stout.
They compete in the Genessee County/Flint Smart Move Championship Tournament held at Carman-Ainsworth Middle School in Flint Township. The event begins at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony.
Championship Tournament winners may be eligible to attend the World Festival in April 2010, where 84 First Lego League teams from the U.S. and around the world will compete.
