Local coalitions are conducting a survey of parents to gain information about underage drinking and other alcohol issues in Oakland County.
‘We need a large number of parents to complete the survey, which will help us plan strategies to promote the health of our youth,? said Julie Brenner, executive director of the North Oakland Community Coalition.
Every parent is asked to give 2-3 minutes to respond to the survey, found on www.northoaklandcoalition.org.
Those who respond can choose to enter a drawing for a 21 inch HDTV.
‘Underage alcohol use destroys the future success of too many youth,? said Brenner. ‘Research shows that youth who begin drinking at an early age will achieve less education and are more likely to have other alcohol and drug related problems.?
Communities with coalitions who actively work on prevention show decreases in underage drinking, she noted.
Responses to the Parent Survey will help local coalitions plan future prevention work to reduce underage drinking and other alcohol related problems.
