The Clarkston Area Lions offers free vision screening to children ages 1-5, from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, at Independence Township Library, 6495 Clarkston Road.
Trained Lions volunteers perform vision screening using a special camera. Pictures are sent to Children’s Hospital where they are reviewed by professionals to detect poor vision or risk factors interfering with vision and normal visual development. Parents receive the results by U.S. Mail.
This non-invasive photo screening detects most problems causing poor vision in young children, including improperly aligned eyes, nearsightedness, farsightedness, anisometriopia, astigmatism, cataracts, and droopy eye-lid.
The Lions purchased the cameras and donated films and picture reading as a service to the community. The State of Michigan recognizes the screening as an acceptable vision screening prior to entering kindergarten.
