Vino flows at Women’s Club annual tasting

Dionysus and Bacchus, the Greek and Roman gods of wine, smiled favorably on the Addison Oaks banquet facility Sunday afternoon as the Oxford Women’s Club hosted its annual wine tasting event.
A total of 128 guests spent three hours sampling 31 wines from Italy, France, California, Michigan, Australia, Germany, South Africa, Oregon, Chile and Spain.
From hearty reds and dry whites to sweet dessert wines fortified with brandy, there was a vino to suit everyone’s taste.
Once again, Dean Rondy, owner of the Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. (11 S. Washington St.), organized the tasting for the Women’s Club. The event netted about $1,500 for the club’s scholarship fund, which benefits Oxford area students.
This reporter highly recommends the Chateau d? Orignac, Pineau des Charentes, which sells for $27.99 a bottle.
Best served chilled, this fortified wine is a blend of 33 percent Cognac and 66 percent Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Bordeaux region.
It’s aged 10 years in oak casks.
Two thumbs up!
