‘Band and choir should not be cut?

Dear editor,
I am in band at Waldon Middle School, and I know that Lake Orion is thinking about cutting the Band and Choir program because people think that the athletics are more valued.
But let me say this, how many kids get a big career in sports? Very, very few kids. Now, how many kids get into a career in music or performing arts? Probably a lot more kids will get a music career than a sports career.
You actually learn more in band or choir than you learn in sports. Band is pretty much math and language arts. The time signature that tells you how many beats in a, measure is a fraction.
There are dotted notes like, a dotted half note is a half note (which is two counts) plus another count, so it would be 3 counts. It teaches language arts because there are a lot of words that tell you how fast, slow, long or short to play.
I hope that the performing arts will be as valued as the athletic program, and that other budget savings can be found instead of eliminating these important educational programs.
