Springfield forms budget committee

With double-digit tax revenues drops expected, Springfield Township officials are getting an early start on budget work.
Supervisor Mike Trout, Treasurer Jamie Dubre, and Trustee Dennis Vallad met for the first time, Jan. 26, as the new Budget Finance Committee.
‘Everyone is struggling with this subject,? said Vallad, who proposed creating the committee, Jan. 14. ‘I’d like to begin the budget cycle pretty quickly.?
Based on township and county assessing data, property value in Springfield Township is expected to drop 12-13 percent this year. The goal of the committee is to figure out what personnel, program, and efficiency changes can be made to compensate, Trout said.
‘It’s a good idea to figure out what we need,? he said. ‘I think things will get much worse.?
The committee’s goal is to develop a multi-year budget plan, reviewing financial reports, investments and loans, Capital Improvement Plan, staffing, scheduling, salaries, benefits and contracts, and millage and bonds.
