Grapplers pin down second place in league play

Varsity wrestlers completed their regular season with a second place finish in Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Red Division.
Coaching staff say it was a very respectable regular season as Lake Orion competes in the toughest of the three OAA leagues.
Wednesday, Feb. 3, Dragons traveled to Troy Athens for their last league quad meet against Troy Athens and West Bloomfield. In the first dual, Lake Orion beat Troy Athens 46-26 and went on to beat West Bloomfield 42-27. Dragons won eight of 13 matches in both duals.
Matt Musary (125), Mitch Ladd (152), Devon Meadows (160), Adam Gros (171), Willie Stewart (215) and Joey Kohler (285) all went 2-0 on the night.
Dragons? 5-2 OAA duals record on the season put them in second place going into the league tournament, Feb. 6.
For the tournament, Lake Orion traveled to Hazel Park.The team had to void the 103 and 119 weight classes, but managed to take second place with 142 points.
Clarkston claimed the league championship with 173.5 points.
Six of the twelve Lake Orion wrestlers reached the championship match. A.J. Fligger (135), Dom Arnold (145) and Stewart won their championship matches, and Musary, Josh Hofmann (189) and Kohler were runners-up. Demitri Hudson (152) and Meadows each placed third and Adam Gros took fourth.
Lake Orion is now 21-15 on the year and as their focus turns toward the post season.
Dragons hosted districts, Feb. 10. In the first round, Lake Orion took on Clarkston, and Rochester Adams faced Pontiac.
Look to next week’s Review for those results. Saturday, Feb. 13, 14 Lake Orion wrestlers will travel to Rochester Adams for individual districts competing against 13 other schools.
