Six of 14 Lake Orion wrestlers will advance to regionals.
The team participated in a field of fourteen schools at the MHSAA Individual Districts at Rochester Adams High School on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Dragon wrestlers were Matt Musary (125), Cameron Masters (125), Deven Ellis (130), A.J. Fligger (135), Ethan Gros (140), Dom Arnold (145), Demitri Hudson (152), Mitch Ladd (152), Devon Meadows (160), Adam Gros (171), Evan Rourke (171), Josh Hofmann (189), Willie Stewart (215) and Joey Kohler (285).
Head Coach Cory Kuzinski said, ‘I’m very happy for the six guys that made it through to regionals. They set their goals high and are now in a position to really make them happen. They’ve worked hard and deserve everything they’ve achieved.?
Thirteen of the fourteen Lake Orion wrestlers experienced victory at districts. Dragons might have gotten fourteen wins, but Hudson and Ladd had to face each other in the first round, which was single elimination, with Hudson winning, 9?5.
Top four wrestlers from each weight class advanced to regionals.
At the end of the day, six Lake Orion wrestlers were on the medal stand and will participate in the MHSAA individual regionals at Howell High School next Saturday, Feb. 20.
Fligger went 3?0 and captured the 135 division championship with a 5?0 win over Ty Foltz, of Clarkston. Fligger is currently ranked number two in the state and has a 41?3 record.
Arnold was 2?1 on the day and was the 145 division runner-up, losing his championship match to Doug Baughman, of Hartland. Arnold is 35 ? 14 on the season.
Musary went 4?1 and placed third in the 125 division after a 3? win over Jeff Sloney, of Clarkston. Musary is currently ranked number 11 in the state and has a 41 ? 14 record.
Adam Gros took third place in the 171 division with an 11?2 victory over Patrick Roeser, of Walled Lake Northern. Gros was 4?1 on the day and improved his record to 35?8.
Stewart placed third in the 215 division with a 13?4 win over Sean Wright, of Hartland. Stewart, who is ranked sixth in the state, went 4?1 on the day and improved his record to 44?10.
Hofmann fought through a knee injury and placed fourth in the 189 division. He went 2?2 on the day and is 42?12 on the season.
