Clarkston-based Canine Companions Rescue Center recently received a $250 Greenworks donation from Waste Management.
The award recognizes volunteer Deanna West’s efforts with the organization.
‘I’ve always wanted to volunteer in some way,? said West, Waste Management employee and resident of Lake Orion. ‘I’m a dog lover, so Canine Companions Rescue Center was the perfect opportunity.?
The company’s Greenworks Program honors employees who volunteer in the community.
‘Waste Management’s commitment to being a valued community partner extends beyond the workplace,” said Denise Gretz, Waste Management’s vice president fo Michigan and Ohio. “It’s about each of us being involved in our community in meaningful ways.”
Canine Companions Rescue Center rescues dogs from animal controls, tests for temperament and provides shots and medical care. Then the dog is placed in a foster home to prepare them for adoption.
‘Dogs are a part of the family, they are living breathing things that rely on you to care for them,? said West, who has fostered puppies and adult dogs at her home for more than four years. ‘These dogs are so lovely; I can’t understand how anyone can let them go.?
