Dear editor,
I am very concerned about the direction our officials are taking in regards to our policing authority in Orion Township and Lake Orion.
The Orion Township supervisor should have met with the sheriff’s department about cutbacks and the need to save money before discussing the matter with the Village of Lake Orion. It appears he has put the cart before the horse.
The sheriff’s deputies are well-trained and professional in their duties and have provided excellent service to Orion Township over the years.
According to the March 31 article in the Orion Review, Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh has already put a preliminary plan on paper under the direction of the village manager.
This is a slam to the dedicated deputies serving Orion Township.
If our community is going to start sharing services, is there a need for both a village manager and a township supervisor?
