The smell of exhaust fumes, roar of engines, and workers in the pit stop come to life during Mark Kelly’s photo exhibition at LA Cafe.
Kelly, a Clarkston resident, visited the AMA Flat Track event at Indiana State Fair Grounds last August and was inspired to capture the racing life. He chose 14 from his vast collection to be displayed.
“LA Cafe hosts different artists to showcase and decorate their store,” he said. “I know the owner and I like the place so I went in one day and I asked if I could hang some photographs.”
After hearing yes, Kelly chose the photos he took while in Indianapolis.
“I thought they would be the most appreciated by most people,” he said when chosing the subject. “I chose some racing photos and some that weren’t racing.”
The collection has photographs of people working in the pits, the tools used in the trade, machinery in the pits, close ups on the cars and some racing.
“It was a blend of diverse flavors,” he said about the international race.
The photos are for sale for any enthusiast to take home but Kelly priced them with caution.
“I priced the photos fairly high,” he admitted. “Because I value them.”
Kelly began photographing when he was 10-years-old and this is his first show.
LA Cafe is located at 5815 Dixie Highway in Waterford.
