Summer Olympics ride into town

Ready for a little action?
Men and women age 50 and better can now register online to participate in the Michigan Senior Olympics Summer Games, hosted July 7-21’in various locations throughout Oakland County.
‘We have people who have just started in a sport, and sometimes they’re nervous but they want to give it a try anyway,? said Sheila Tinnion, director of marketing and sponsorship for the Michigan Senior Olympics Summer Games. ‘We really like to encourage them, ‘Just come out and give it a try. If you finish your race or your competition, you’re a winner.??
Participants, Tinnion explained, are divided into age groups and come with varying levels of skill, ability and experience.
Competitive games include 22 medal events such as tennis, track and field, cycling, softball and golf; ribbon events range from canoe and kayaking to dance and disc golf.?
‘Our oldest participant is 95,? Tinnion said. ‘He does tennis, bowling, track and field’he’s just amazing.?
Michigan Senior Olympics is a non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles by organizing state games, sports competitions, plus health, fitness, nutrition and wellness programs for the over 50 age group.
