Twenty years ago, Wilson Phillips and En Vogue topped Billboard charts, Milli Vanilli admited to lip-synching “Girl You Know It’s True,” and Palace Sports and Entertainment bought Pine Knob Music Theatre in Independence Township.
Renamed DTE Energy Music Theatre in 2002, the auditium is celebrating with prizes and concerts.
‘For twenty days straight, we’re giving away a different prize every day,? said Jeff Corey, director of public relations. ‘The last day, everybody who has entered in for a prize will be entered into a random drawing for $20,000.?
Prizes include summer-long smoothie card and airfare to anywhere in the U.S. for two. The giveaway will conclude May 28, at Eddie Money’s concert season opener.
Green Day, Jimmy Buffet, Dave Matthews Band, and dozens of other acts are set to perform this year.
‘We’re blessed with probably the best concert market in the country for it’s size,? says Corey. ‘And because of this area and its rich musical history, people love live music and as long as you can make it affordable for them, people will come back.?
Most concerts offer $10-15 lawn tickets and ticket packages, Corey said.
