The Road Commission for Oakland County will begin paving the gravel section of Ray Road between Lapeer Road (M-24) and Oxford Road in Oxford Twp. on Friday, June 18.
The road will be closed to through-traffic until Sept. 7.
The project is expected to be completed Oct. 15
In addition to paving the gravel portion of the road, the project includes resurfacing the paved portions at either end of the gravel segment. The road will be paved with asphalt and will be primarily two lanes.
Additionally, the project includes extending the center left-turn lane east from M-24 to the Levy Aggregate gravel pit entrance. A center left-turn lane will be added from Oxford Road west to the high school entrance, and a right-turn lane will be added at the west side of the Oxford Road intersection to serve traffic turning south onto Oxford Road.
During the project, the detour route for through traffic will be Oxford Road to Burdick Street to Lapeer Road (M-24) and vice versa.
Most of the road will have curbs and gutters, though there will be some areas where drainage will be provided through open ditches. Storm sewers will be installed in the areas where the curb and gutter are installed.
The project also will involve the reduction of two small hills to improve sight distance.
