Lady Cats win districts, advance to regionals

After winning its first-ever Flint Metro League title in softball, the Oxford Lady Wildcats continued their hot play in state district play by winning three games last week to advance to the regional championship.
The Wildcats will host the regional game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Cats beat Lake Orion, 2-1, in district play last Tuesday and then on Saturday beat Rochester Adams, 3-2, and Romeo, 4-1, to claim the MHSAA district softball title.
Catcher Kelly Cartner’s base hit against Lake Orion in the seventh inning scored the winning run in the 2-1 victory.
Cartner was 2-for-3 against Adams while Chelsea Kessler provided the game-winning hit in the come-from-behind victory against the Highlanders.
In the district championship, Autumn Cervantez had two RBI to lead Oxford.
The Wildcat’s pitching ace Corinne Luxton won all three games for Oxford, which included tossing a two-hitter against Romeo.
