Boys golf heading to regionals

The Oxford Wildcat boys golf team saved their best performance of the season last week to qualify for regional play this week.
The Wildcats shot a season-best 309 at Oxford Hills Golf Club to finish second in the 12-team district play behind Grand Blanc’s 300 and ahead of Lake Orion, Clarkston, Rochester Adams and Rochester.
Grand Blanc is ranked third in the state.
The top six teams qualified for the regional meet, which was scheduled for Thursday at Flushing Country Club.
The top three teams in the 12-team regional meet will qualify to play for the state championships on June 11-12 in East Lansing.
Coach Terry Kelley’s squad had four golfers shoot 80 or better in district competition.
Nick Hocker led the way with a 74.
Doug Piesko shot a 76, Nolan Chapman carded a 79 and Josh Hocking recorded an 80.
