Dear editor,
In response to Michele Palermo’s letter to the editor about undermining a parent’s authority by the officers extending a grace to the teenagers (Decision ‘undermines’ parents’ authority, June 16) Michele, you are completely off base.
This country was built on second chances and if you want to ruin your kids’ future by possibly preventing them from getting a job based on a mistake they made when they were a kid, so be it.
At least there are officers in [Orion Township] that are willing to turn it over to the parents rather than the courts.
They, unlike you, realize that by getting someone wrapped up in the court process could be extremely detrimental to their future.
Everyone’s made mistakes and everyone deserves another chance.
