Children waved their small United States of America flags as army trucks, firetrucks, and tractors rolled through downtown Clarkston, July 3.
The annual Fourth of July parade drew hundreds of long-time and new patrons to the historic setting.
Independence Township resident Mary McKnight brought her family to see the parade for the first time and was impressed.
‘It’s really good,? said McKnight. ‘There is a lot to it. We decided to come out and check it out. We saw people we know, which is nice, too.?
Her 6-year-old daughter Kaci was excited when parade participants began throwing candy to the kids.
‘We are building the American tradition,? McKnight said, adding she and her husband moved to the area from Canada.
This year’s parade theme was ‘Be a Patriot? and 114 entries reflected their own interpretation on what that means, including the Clarkston Medical Group float, with children dressed as historical figures from America’s past.
