Hot fun in the summer sun!

Last week’s three-day celebration at Seymour Lake Township Park in Oxford was by all accounts a smashing success.
‘I think it was fantastic,? exclaimed Ron Davis, director of the township Parks and Recreation Department. ‘It was a tremendous amount of work for five people (the department’s staff), but overall it was great. I think it was very well-received.?
The celebration featured a carnival, live music, a classic car show, movie night, the park’s K.L.R. Splashpad and Kids Kingdom playground, and a breathtaking fireworks display that served as the sparkling cherry on top of it all.
Davis estimated that between the fireworks and carnival, there were 10,000 people in the park for the celebration’s culmination Saturday night.
He noted the parks/rec. department’s cut of the carnival earnings was about $6,000 (or 10 percent), which meant the traveling show made about $60,000.
Parks/rec’s cut will be used to help offset the celebration’s overall cost. ? CJC
