Bikers of all ages braved overcast skies and fits of rain on Saturday, July 24 for the 12th Annual Rural Pearl of the ride to benefit the Oxford-Addison and Orion Youth Assistance.
‘The event went pretty good,? said Lori Collier, who was the chair of the event this year. ‘The weather kind of hurt us again this year, so the numbers were down a little bit.?
Even with the rain, the event had 130 bikers on the day, raising $5,000 for the two youth assistance.
Bikers had the option of choosing three different routes to take.
There was a 15-mile ride that went out to Leonard along the Polly Ann Trail, a 30 mile ride that went out to Leonard and down to Lake Orion along the Paint Creek Trail.
The 48 mile route sent riders down to Stoney Creek Metro park and to Rochester before heading back to the starting point along W. Burdick St. in Oxford.
‘The food was good and everybody seemed to be happy and have a good time,? Collier said.
