Letter to the editor: Backpacks needed for back-to-school

Dear editor,
Back-to-school shopping can be so expensive and when you’re on a tight budget, it can be very difficult to get your children the items they need.
That’s why Oxford/Orion FISH is starting to collect donations for the annual School Backpack Drive, scheduled for Aug. 1-22.
People can donate new backpacks or slingpacks and various school supplies such as highlighters, markers, colored pencils, folders, post it notes, scissors, three ring binders, pencil pouches/boxes or gift cards for us to purchase these items.
Last year we put together 212 backpacks filled with wonderful supplies for students K-12.
We are predicting the need for over 235 this year for the Oxford, Orion, & Leonard areas.
Drop off locations are the Oxford Leader, all three Curves located in Lake Orion & Oxford, and the following churches: St. Joseph’s, Christ the King, Free Methodist of Oxford, Howarth United Methodist, Lake Orion Methodist, Thomas United Methodist, and Oakwood Community.
Please mail monetary donations to FISH School Supplies, P.O. Box 732, Lake Orion, MI 48361. If you have any questions, please contact Val Cass at 248-425-9265 or Kathie Schafnitz at 248-628-7103.
Thank you so much,
Val Cass & Kathie Schafnitz
