Another birthday has gone by in Bobby’s life and he’s still a bachelor at 35. As his married friends surround him, Bobby will contemplate the pros and cons of married life.

‘It’s always been a show I’ve liked a lot. I saw it years ago with another group that I belong to and I was impressed with it that time,? said Director Steve Cunningham. ‘It’s always had a great reputation.?
Cunningham said he loves the play because it’s not your ‘typical musical.?
‘It flows differently than a standard musical does scene to scene to scene. It doesn’t have here’s a catch phrase and everybody does a big musical number,? he said. ‘Everything flows together much more organically. The music compliments the dialog and the feeling of what’s going on.?
Shaun Pittman who plays the lead role of Bobby said he enjoyed the ‘challenge of his character.?
‘It was a challenge because the character is 35 unsure about wanting to get married and not sure if he wants to give up his bachelor lifestyle. I was married at 26. It’s a different dichotomy between me and the character,? Pitman said. ‘You always put some of yourself in the role. I had to think back to my mid 20s and how I felt about things then and put that in relationship to how I feel about it now.?
He also noted he loved the music and enjoyed singing it.

Cunningham submitted to be the director after a couple cast members mentioned the play was being performed this season.
‘They don’t have a lot of people here at CVP who’ve got musical experience. It’s mostly a smaller show, straight show comedy kind of venue,? he said. ‘I’m really the only person who’s directed a musical here in the last 15-20 years. I did Batboy which was like eight years ago.?
Cunningham said he met his obstacles while the theater is undergoing remodeling. The show is the first of the season and it’s a shorter schedule than normal, which he says he was ‘daunted? by, but in the end it all worked out.
‘It’s a great team of people, my music director, and accompanist,? he said. ‘Everybody involved has really pulled together and has done a great job helping us get this thing going, so I’m very pleased with it.?
