Deputy retires after three decades of service

Deputies, township officials, family and friends filled Independence Township sheriff’s substation, Oct. 20, to bid fond farewell to retiring Deputy Robert Osborne.
Osborne served 31 years with the department, with assignments in Brandon Township, Springfield Township, and Independence Township for the past 11 years.
“I couldn’t have asked for better people to work with ? in my opinion, this is the best substation in Oakland County,” he said, right before slicing in to his retirement cake. “It’s been a good ride, the whole 30 years. But it’s time to get out and let you young guys take over.”
Lt. Dale LaBair, substation commander, and Cpt. Tim Atkins, Emergency Preparedness Training and Communications Division , wished him well.
“I appreciate the work you’ve done here,” Atkins said. “You’ve had a spotless career, and served as an example for younger officers.”
“It’s been a pleasure,” LaBair said. “I don’t know how we’re going to replace you.”
