Alpha Club students help neighbor in need

Clarkston Elementary’s Alpha Club looked local for its first community service project ? Autumn Years Elderly Care Home, across the street from the school on Eastlawn Avenue.
“They’re doing good work, they’re very productive,” said Laura Burrum, leader of the Clarkston Area Optimist Club school group, along with Amy Wilson.
In it’s first year, the 26 fifth graders in the club, whose motto is “helping others ? not a choice, it’s a responsibility,” picked the projects.
“This is a great way to develop leadership skills and make a difference in the community,” said Amy Wilson.
The projects, all after school, also include food drives and packing care packages for troops overseas.
