Block grants

Springfield Township Board OK’d $34,890 in Community Development Block Grant funds, Oct. 14.
Of the total, $6,978 goes to planning, $10,467 for public services, and $17,445 for street improvements in low- and moderate-income areas of the township.
Planning funding includes $2,500 for a new safety path on Dixie Highway north of I-75, and $4,479 for parks and recreation Master Plan.
Public services include $5,467 for Neighbors for Neighbors food pantry, $2,500 for Kaleidoscope Foundation, and $2,500 for Independence Township Senior busing, which serves 23 Springfield Township residents.
Block grants are provided by the federal government through Oakland County, and are required to benefit low-and moderate-income residents.
