Clerks help recover cash

When Lawna Bowren of Independence Township saw some money lying on the ground while filling up her car, Oct. 18, she wanted to be helpful.
She asked a man passing by if the money, about $140, was his. He said it was and took it.
“I immediately thought, ‘oh no.’ It felt wrong,” Bowren said. “I thought it was someone else’s money. Turns out it was my money ? weird I know.”
Speaking to employees Joe Mezy, Kevin Mezy, and Michael Shammas at the service station, Clarkston 1 Stop Shop on Sashabaw Road, she found they had it on camera.
“I recognized him,” said Kevin Mezy. “He’s a good guy.”
He gave the man a call and he agreed to return it.
“My husband went to fuel up, and they told him they got the money back,” Bowren said. “That was nice ? he didn’t have to give it back.”
Bowren is thankful for the employees? help.
“They’re such nice people,” she said. “They go above and beyond what they have to do.”
