Plumtree Art & Framing:creating a masterpiece

Sonja Pointer began custom framing more than 13 years ago. An artist at heart, she always knew she would have her own art and frame shop one day. Now, she does a job she loves in a town she loves.
Pointer opened Plumtree Art & Framing, three-and-a-half years ago in Brandon Township. She provides full-service custom framing at the shop and is able to frame a wide range of items including photographs, prints, posters, bouquets and a multitude of three-dimensional objects such as family treasures using shadow boxes.
‘I love what I do,? Pointer says, surrounded by hundreds of wood and metal frame samples. ‘I learn about different worldly things through pictures and objects that people bring in. It’s always different. I rarely frame the same thing twice.?
These items are protected by a wide variety of specialty Tru Vue glass which Pointer uses for its UV protecting properties, resisting fading from sunlight.
‘It’s sunscreen for your art,? she says, smiling.
Pointer says a quality custom-frame job will last 50-100 years if taken care of and is a good investment. The skill in framing lies in not overcutting or making wavy cuts on mats. Pointer is able to make perfect cuts from years of experience.
Plumtree stands apart from other shops in that Pointer does all the work herself. From helping clients select the framing and matting to fit into their home or office to making sure the job is completed to perfection, she assures the customer is cared for every step of the way and all work is guaranteed.
In addition to the custom framing, Plumtree also offers Winsor & Newton fine art supplies, including brushes and paints. Artwork by Pointer and consignment artists adorn the walls of the shop, showcasing original watercolors, pencil drawings, oil paintings, and photography.
Plumtree has a wide variety of catalogs from which customers can order custom prints. The thousands of print images include landscapes, abstracts, still lifes, tropicals, and black and white photography, all of which can be transferred to canvas to given an original oil painting look. The catalogs are updated seasonally.
‘The people in Ortonville are warm and caring. Everyone has been very supportive,? said Pointer. ‘I will continue the excellent at affordable prices.
