Timothy Pierce Woodworth, formerly of Oxford, has been awarded Boy Scout’s rank of Eagle, at a Court of Honor held June 19, 2010 in Lapeer.
At the ceremony, emcee Jason Hoeft introduced the guests. Reverend David Hensler gave the invocation and benediction, and also presented Tim with a Certificate of Commendation from the Lutheran Association on Scouting, for achieving the rank of Eagle.
Representative Kevin Daley read and presented a special tribute from the State of Michigan signed by himself, Senator Gilbert, and Governor Granholm. Another Tribute was sent from Michigan’s Executive Office, signed by Governor Granholm and Lt. Governor Cherry.
Lapeer Police Officer Dan Smith presented Tim with a flag that, at the request of Senator Debbie Stabenow, had been flown over our United States Capitol, in honor of his earning Eagle. Officer Smith also read and presented a letter of congratulations from Lapeer County Prosecuting Attorney, Byron Konschuh. Troop Committee member, Greg Lusignan presented a Recognition Award from Admiral Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
He was also given a Pin and Recognition Award from NESA, the National Eagle Scout Association. Scoutmaster, Bill Bodziak, presented Tim with a card from President and Mrs. Barack Obama, an Achievement Award from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and finally, his Eagle Pendant. In attendance, were several scouts; leaders, troop committee members, Eagles, and Tall Pine Council members.
Local friends were there, and relatives came from near and far; Fenton, Indian River/Afton, Gagetown, Troy, Orion Twp., and St. Clair. Grandparents Chuck & Gerry Edler from Owendale, and Betty Woodworth from Lake Orion were also able to attend.
Tim presented his parents with the Eagle/Mom pin and Eagle/Father pin, his Mom with 7 red roses (1 for each of the boy scout ranks) and Mr. Bodziak with a gift and Mentor pin. A luncheon was served after the ceremony.
For his Eagle project, Tim held a ‘Juvenile Diabetes Awareness Fair? at the American Legion Post #16, in Lapeer.
He advertised for the public to bring their children in for informational fun and screening.
Present, were representatives and info from a Nutritionist, the ADA, JDRF, Great Lakes Medical Supply, 2 medical ID companies and those running the screening area.
Then a healthy snack/lunch was offered, and Popper was there to shape balloons into wonderful flowers and characters for everyone. Donations for Tim’s project came from the Otisville Lions Club, Kidd Company in Millington, St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Otisville, the Lapeer Home Depot, and Popper.
Tim, 18, is the son of Rod and Debbie Woodworth, residing in Otisville.
He is a recent Magna Cum Laude honors graduate of North Branch High School. For now, he is attending Macomb Community College and is studying for a career in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice.
After 2 years, he will be transferring to a larger college/university.
Along with scouting, Tim’s other interests include paintball, strategic gaming, video gaming, fishing and hunting. He is also very interested in WWII history.
He joined scouting at 6 ?, as a Tiger cub in 1998, moved up through the ranks and earned his Arrow of Light in 2003.
He became a Boy Scout and joined Troop 127, also in 2003. On his way to Eagle rank, Tim earned 32 merit badges and held the positions of Quartermaster and Historian. He was part of the Governor’s Honor Guard for a week on Mackinac Island, and had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer Granholm with a handshake, in 2008.
Tim is soon in training to become a Leader in Boy Scouting.
