The Clarkston High School Girls Swim Team wrapped their season with a 16th place finish at the Division 1 High School State Championships held at Oakland University on Nov. 19 and 20.
The meet was hailed as the fastest state final swim meet in recent memory.
Coach Kenwyn Chock has a lot to be proud of with her freshmen Kathryn Culver and Sami Stelpflug who both had an outstanding meet and placed on the All-State team.
Culver finished sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Stelpflug finished second place in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.
Her performance earned her All-American honors, Clarkston’s first swimmer to reach this level. She is competing in the Junior National Swimming Championship held at Georgia Tech University on December 9-11.
Culver and Stelpflug joined fellow freshmen Monica Gorgas and Natalie Vela to finish 19th in the 200-yard medley relay. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Culver, Stelpflug, Gorgas and sophomore Taylor Tekiele placed 17th. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Vela, Tekiele, sophomore Kendall Kamp, and senior Andrea Misteravich finished 37th.
The Lady Wolves finished the season breaking seven varsity records and five pool records. They finished with a overall record, 7-1, and went undefeated in league meets and won the Blue Division League Meet winning 10 of 12 events in the process.
Chock received Coach of the Year honors. Nine of the girls made the All-League Team: Misteravich, team captain, Tekiele, sophomore Kendall Oldford, Gorgas, Vela, Stelpflug, Culver and divers sophomore Jenny Godlew and junior Alyssa Spytman.
