Viazanko defends in 5-0 victory

Icers skated into the new year with two wins.
“Things are starting to come together,? said Clarkston Hockey Coach Bryan Krygier. ‘We are playing well. I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves but we are definitely doing things better. We are getting good results from it.?
The boys played St. Clair Shores last Wednesday and beat them, 5-0. Connor Hughes put the boys on the scoredboard 7:50 into the first period.
The momentum continued to grow as Zach Gootee and Adam Bruderick scored two more in the next period.
But the time Brad Pizzey scored the fourth goal, 2:41 into the third period, it was all over with for St. Clair Shores.
Austin Morse sealed their opponents? fate adding the last goal for the night.
Freshman goalie Jack Viazanko saved 14 shots and had a shutout.
“It was a good game,? said Krygier. ‘Viazanko played well.?
The Wolves made 28 shots on the net. Adam Larkin, Matt Harrington, Jordan Henney, Chad Wotton, Dillon Drayer and Morse each added one assist for the night.
The boys headed to Stoney Creek on Saturday for their second win, 4-1. Macario Torres opened the game with the first goal three minutes into the first period.
Stoney Creek’s Brian Gill tied the score at the beginning of the next period. A power play goal from Drayer put the boys back into the lead 7:21 in the period.
Four minutes later Adam Larkin scored Clarkston’s third goal. Drayer added on more unassisted with 44 seconds left in the game. Drayer had two assists during the game.
Adam Johns, Wotton and Pizzey also added one assist each. Alec Gildner had 17 saves in the net and Clarkston made 33 shots.
“We are tied for first in the OAA right now with two games left in the league,? said Krygier.
The boys host Rochester United on Saturday night.
“It looks good. We have to win one of our next two games to finish in second place,? said Krygier. ‘I would definitely like to beat Rochester so whatever happens against Lake Orion we still have second place clinched.?
The game begins at 8 p.m. at Detroit Skate Club.
