Anglers can turn their catches into cash by participating in the Bear Paw Cafe’s annual ice fishing competition on Saturday, January 22.
The contest involves two-man teams descending on Addison Township’s Lakeville Lake in search of that toothy aquatic predator known as the northern pike. Final registration for the competition will be from 6:15 to 6:45 am. at the Bear Paw Cafe (1363 Rochester Rd.).
Cost to enter is $40 per team. Anglers must supply their own bait.
Fishing will begin at 7 a.m. and everyone must be off the ice and back to the Bear Paw by 1 p.m. for the big weigh-in.
As it stands right now, cash prizes will be awarded for the largest single pike in terms of weight and to the team that catches the most legal pike also in terms of weight. This is subject to change.
Participants in the ice fishing contest must abide by Michigan Department of Natural Resources rules, which include having a valid fishing license and keeping only pike that measure at least 24 inches in length.
