Varsity softball sitting 3-3 for season

The Oxford varsity softball team had a tough game against Brighton on Saturday. The team lost both games in the doubleheader.
In game one, Oxford lost 7-2. Losing pitcher Amber Cervante had 11 hits, seven errors and only one strike out after five innings.
‘Oxford defense committed five errors which proved to be costly against a powerful Brighton squad,? said coach Sue Roeher.
Offensively, Elise Rendell went two for four with one RBI and one run. Teammate Jessica Anhel went two for three.
In the second game, Oxford closed the gap slightly with a 4-2 loss.
Oxford was trailing going into the bottom of the fifth when Megan Bono got to first. She was bunted onto second by Amanda Mitchell and scored when Claire Vernarsky singled.
At the bottom of the sixth, Anhel lead off with a single and was moved onto second with a bunt from Cervante. She sailed to third after a hit from Andrea Olesky and a hit from Jenni Rhodes brought her home.
‘Oxford only had five hits all game,? said Roeher.
Vernarsky went two for four in the game with one RBI. Elise Rendell went one for three and Bono one for one.
On April 11, the team split against Flint Kearsley.
In the first game Oxford lost 7-10, but game back in the second to win 4-2. Winning pitcher Amber Cervantez had four strike outs, five hits and no errors over seven innings.
‘This was a great varsity pitching debut by Cervantez,? said Roeher.
The Lady Cats face off in their first league game against Brandon tonight (Wednesday).
