Local dance studio Elegance In Motion Ballroom hosted a fund raiser dance, March 11, raising $565 for breast cancer research.
Studio owner and Clarkston resident Sarah Haremza said she came up with the idea when talking to her daughter’s 9 year old friend. The girl’s grandmother had breast cancer and was finishing her last round of chemotherapy.
‘I immediately remembered when my own grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was young,” Haremza said. “It is such a horrible disease and everyone knows someone whose life has been changed by this horrible cancer. I wanted to try to help in some small way and dancing is all we know.?
The Rhythm Kings performed the music for a sold-out crowd of about 70 in the studio.
“We ended up selling out in five days and sadly turned people away. I wish we would have had more space,? said Curtis Haremza.
“It was so much fun to see people dance to our music,” said band leader Russell English. “We were just as entertained watching them. It was a fantastic party and a great cause.?
‘It was the most energetic dance that I have been to in years,? said James Valentino, dance instructor.
